Slam Dancers: The six best dunkers in the NCAA Tournament

Rims around the country be afraid. Be very afraid.

The NCAA Tournament is set to get underway and we all know there will be no shortage of highlight reel plays made this week. From buzzer beaters, to dominant blocks to phenomenal passes.

But let’s be honest – we all want to see the dunks. And I’m not talking about the goofy white guy on Duke all alone throwing it down with two hands.

I am talking about sick, in-your-face rim rockers that are so absurd and hardcore women across the country might instantly conceive just from seeing them.

I am talking about throw downs on fast breaks and in traffic, and every now and then, ones with enough style to make the guys back in Rucker Park nod approvingly.

 

 

So you don’t miss out on any of the action, we have compiled the top six dunkers to look out for in the Big Dance later this week.

Marqus Blakely, senior forward, Vermont Catamounts

This dominant player from the Northeast has been the top player in the America East for years now, owning the paint every time he played a conference game. Blakely put on a clinic in his league’s title game against Boston University and last year against Maryland, he nearly won the game in College Park singlehandedly. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder could start for many major conference teams and expect him to give Syracuse plenty of issues as he soars through their zone later this week.

 

 

 

 

Derrick Favors, freshman forward, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

This 6-foot-10, 246-pound man child is a lock to be a lottery pick in the NBA as soon as he comes out. Favors was a force in the Atlantic Coast Conference the minute he took the floor for the Yellow Jackets this year and nearly singlehandedly won them the ACC Tournament. Judging by the clip below, he could have won the NBA dunk contest too.

 

 

 

Randy Culpepper, junior guard, UTEP Miners

The Player of the Year in Conference USA also is its nastiest dunker. Culpepper can almost touch the moon with his insane hops. The 6-foot, 165 pounder has been in the sky so much this season that he should be able to take a nice vacation with all his frequent flyer miles. Because he is THAT good, below are too absurd dunks.

 

 

 

 

 

Avery Bradley, freshman guard, Texas Longhorns

Possibly the best all-around player on the team ranked No.1 earlier this year, Bradley needs to work on his jump shot, but his lockdown defense and dunking prowess make NBA scouts salivate about his potential. In the ultra-competitive Big 12 this season, Bradley emerged as one of the league’s most athletic players and top dunkers. Just ask Western Carolina.

 

 

 

John Wall, freshman guard, Kentucky Wildcats

You really don’t want to pick someone so obvious and mainstream, but have you seen the flushes he has been throwing down lately? He has been taking the manhood of players in the SEC all season and you could spend a whole day watching all the YouTube clips of him. To get a taste, here’s one from a few weeks ago when the 6-foot-4, 195 pounder attacked the tin so hard he almost killed himself. Also, there’s another one of him dunking on Jerry Stackhouse in a Pro-Am. Absolutely filthy.

 

 

 

 

 

Durrell Summers, junior guard, Michigan State Spartans

The dunk master from Detroit might be the best in-game dunker on this list. He has thrown down a plethora of in-game facials the past three years in the Big Ten. However, the 6-foot-4, 205 pounder definitely has the edge when it comes to crunch-time dunks. His throwdown over UConn’s Stanley Robinson was a momentum-shifting play in last year’s NCAA Tournament and helped propel his side to the national title game.

 

 

 

Honorable mention: Quincy Acy, sophomore forward, Baylor Bears

Acy led the Big 12 in field goal percentage, hitting over 70 percent of his shots. The big reason why: Most of those shots were jaw-dropping dunks. In the final regular season game against Texas, Acy scored 24 points, getting 11 of his 12 buckets off slams.
